Pam Duthie - Designer, lecturer, instuctor, photographer and author of "Continuous Bloom: A Month-by-Month Guide to Non-Stop Color in the Perennial Garden."  Pam will discuss creatively using both woody and herbaceous plant materials during "A Garden for All Sesons."
Tracy DiSabato-Aust - Designer, lecturer, consultant, nationally recognized writer and author of "The Well-Tended Perennial Garden." Tracy will focus on improving the habit, prolonging the life of and controlling pests on perennials in her talk, "Pruning Perennials A-Z: Cutting Edge Techniques."
Tony Avent - Horticulturist specializing in rare/unusual perennials, natives & hostas, writer, and acting director of J.C. Raulston Arboretum will share knowledge gained in his relentless search for new perennials in "New Perennials for the Chicago Area."

Continental Breakfast will be served starting at 7:30.  The authors will be available to sign books purchased at the event.  A catered luncheon package with 3 meal choices is available at $110.00, (limited to the first 250 registrants.)  A fee of $90.00, (for participants who prefer lunch on their own,)covers the continental  breakfast and seminar only.

Gardenfest 2001
Now is the time to prepare for that beautiful spring garden by planning to attend 'Gardenfest 2001'. sponsored by McHenry County College and the University of Illinois Extension, Master Gardeners of McHenry County. This special annual event will be held on Saturday, April 7, from 8 AM to 4 PM in the McHenry County College Conference Center, 8900 US Hwy 14, Crystal Lake, IL 60012.
This year's Gardenfest will have as the keynote speaker, Paul James, The Gardener Guy - host of HGTV's "Gardening by the Yard". Attendeess will be educated and entertained as Paul presents his own Q&A forum. Other classes from which to choose will include: Container Gardening; Ornamental Grasses; Perennial Garden Design; Square Foot Vegetable Gardening; Made in the Shade Gardening; Applying the Principles of Feng Shui; Designing with Color; and Planning, Planting & Preserving. Classes will be taught by Advanced Master Gardeners, University of Illinois Extension educators and commercial educators.

Co-sponsored by the Schaumburg Park District, Schaumburg Community Garden Club and other conservation groups, this event helps promote the use of native plants and other "green" practices in the home landscape. The native plant sale features a wide variety of prairie and woodland wildflowers, grasses and shrubs. The event also features demonstrations of proper planting techniques, soil improvement tips, composting, low-impact lawn care, and attracting birds to your backyard. Kids activities such as birdhouse building, wildflower seedling transplanting, games, and work in the Spring Valley Kid's Garden are included. Pre-ordering for the plant sale is advised, though many varieties can also be purchased on the day of the event. Plant order forms will be available in early March and can be obtained, along with more information on the fair and directions, by calling the nature center at (847) 985-2100.
